Genuine Schlenkerla Oak Doppelbook - Oak Vintage Beer.
The malt for "Genuine Schlenkerla Oak" is not dried with beechwood, as is usual for smoked malt in the Schlenkerla malthouse, but with the finest oak wood. The resulting oak smoked malt has a softer and more complex smoky aroma than the spicy and intense beech smoked malt.
The vintage version of Schlenkerla Oak is also unfiltered and, due to high alcohol content can be stored for very long periods. The aromas are further refined over time by the yeast, so each year brings a new taste experience.

Been a while since had the regular version of this smoked Doppelbock.
Pours a clear dark mahogany colour with a garnet hue - a small amount of floating debris noted - scant tawny/khaki head.
The nose is certainly smoke forward with a fair intensity, oaky for sure, but honestly less of the smoked ham/meaty effect (not none, but less), with some caramel noted, and some dark fruit aroma.
Taste is sweet and smoky up front, again more notes of caramelized dark fruits than the background smoked ham, with a bit of soft earthy bitterness and a bit of alcohol.
Full rich and slightly boozy mouthfeel with a lingering smoky fruity bittersweetness - a barleywine meets a smoked doppelbock. Intense and delicious.
