A: Generic white head with average characteristics and ~3-4 minute retention. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.
Body colour is a clear pale copper of average vibrance. Appears overcarbonated. Far from unique or special. Generic looking.
Sm: Herbal, junipery, and sprucey hop notes lend this a surprisingly assertive hop presence. Pilsner malts and Munich malts compensate with sweetness. Has a clean lager yeast character throughout.
Aromatic intensity is average
T & Mf: Clean barley, pale malts, floral hop character, some herbal and juniper hop character. Decently balanced, with a simple shallow build. No yeast character, off-notes, or booze comes through. I do like it generally speaking, but it leaves a lot to be desired.
Smooth, wet, refreshing, light-bodied, and overcarbonated. Minor flaws include sticky and lightly syrupy characteristics, as well as too much thickness. Lacks a gestalt build and any harmony of texture to taste, though the mouthfeel does complement the taste nicely without accentuating any specific notes.
O: Drinkable and enjoyable. I'll enjoy finishing the can and it's nice for its style, but we've all had better. Won't impress the discerning drinker, but it's the best Karhu variant I've had so far, and it's widely available at Finnish supermarkets.
