Clear golden colour with a smooth white head. Fair head retention.

Sweet malt with a touch of floral hops. Okay.

A crisp, lightly malty ale woith a touch of floral hops and a it of bitterness on the back.

Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Crisp.

A decent lightly flavoured ale and a good way to start.

I applaud brewers that care with their entry level ale because the golden/blonde style can be both the perfect beer for the craft newby or the perfect patio brew. I think Lompoc nailed it with this one. Light in colour and ABV but with a great hop nose and finish. Not big huge hops but enough to complement the lighter body. I would even take the ABV down to sub 5% to create the perfect summer session beer

What can I say? It was good, but average.

A - pretty average pale blonde hue

S - smells like typical blonde ale, nothing out of the ordinary. Light hops, light malts, light, light, light...

T - A touch of citrus and malt are the only things of note going on.

M - Medium to light body with little tannin and subdued acids.

D - Good, but rather ordinary. Reserve for beach and pool or as a palate refresher before diving into their more serious brews.

appearance - poured a nice golden straw, head settles quickly, not much lacing

taste - light malt, light hops, light yeast, sweet candied taste

mouthfeel - medium body, cask style carbonation

drinkability - great flavor and easy to drink, refreshing

A - Pours a solid straw color with nice clarity, 1 finger of white head, and has good retention. However, leaves no lacing.

S/T - Notes of milk-like honey, and light bittering hops.

M - Medium-full bodied, well-balanced, and very smooth.

D - A good sessionable beer. Good for the style.

Enjoyed this light easy drinker on the back patio on a fine sunny evening.

Malt and some grass in the aroma. Some good sweetness of honey.

Taste is malt forward, light and has a decent crispness. It's no pilsner, more like an attempt at pilsner with ale yeast. It's helluva drinkable, and a great session beer. Maybe needs an extra shot of hops and i'd call it a perfect drinker.

Tried a pint from draft at the Hedge House. Pours a robust golden color, topped by a small, creamy white head that diminishes rather quickly. Aroma of clean pale malt and a touch of bittering hops. Palate is well-balanced up front, with the light sweetness of the pale malt blending nicely with the mildly bitter hops. The bitterness develops more of an edge towards the finish, leaving a rather unpleasant sour-bitter edge. Body is nice and robust at first, but develops a slightly powdery character on the swallow. Not one of Lompoc’s finer ales.

This is the least impressive of the Lompoc beers I have consumed. Relatively dark for a gold/blonde, this tends towards amber, without much head.

It has a pleasant fruity and acidic nose, but tastes of a strange type of candy which I ought to be able to put a name to, but can't. It is a little too flat. A crisper feel would go a long way towards saving this beer which I'll be steering clear of in future.

This beer has a fragrance so fruity and inspired, it reaches through the haze of cigarette smoke at the bar like a life raft tossed through an acrid fog. My pint was a little flat and tired as New Old Lompoc beers can be. But the indisputable fact of Fool’s Golden is that it is a liquid alter to the malt gods. It is warm amber colored, modestly hazed and puts out very little CO2. But the malts are firmly in control and arrive like a kiss to the palate – sensual and oh, so sweet.

This malt-laden session beer is awash in maltose, but is not unfinished. If you happen to be looking for something sweet, consider this one more reason to visit the New Old Lompoc.
