Glass at the New Old Lompoc Brewery on 5/28/09, reviewed from notes, this is a A Belgian Stout that was brewed for the third Annual Portland Cheers to Belgian Beers Festival
A-Very close to black, one and a half inch soapy light tan head with some good retention, some lacing at first, this beer looked thick
S-Rich sugars, roasted malts, vanilla, what seemed to be like sweet yeast, chocolate, mild coffee beans, and grains
T-Begins with lots of sweet malts made up of cocoa and caramel, more sweetness in the middle with some roasted notes shining through, vanilla and dark sugars make up the finish, drinks pretty easy for all that is going on, could probably use some dry characteristics but still very enjoyable and somehow does not ever get too heavy
M-Slightly sweet, roasty, dry, and chewy mouthfeel, pretty full bodied, low to moderate level of carbonation, taste lingers well
D-Could drink a few of these, alcohol was hidden well, not too heavy on the stomach even though it is sweet at times, decent drinkability overall mostly because of its underlying smoothness
My third favorite of their beers and that is saying a lot because they were pretty much all good, our bartneder said this was around 8.2% ABV and is a Belgian-style stout similar to Black Albert from De Struise, did not have that category on BA, so I just added it under imperial stout, this beer was awesome and too bad it is only a one time deal for now, recommended
