this isnt the best berliner. it stinks a little bit like a weird lacto starter from grain, sweaty and tart, and the flavor has a real strong apple character, like they dumped in some juice or cider for the extra fermentables. looks the part though, blonde and cloudy with a decent white head. the nose is kind of off though, its too raw and young i think, just doesnt come clean like the style should, stays sweaty and a bit unappealing. the sweat is there in the taste too, although an apple sweetness is what i notice the most. green apple really, and it seems like tartness comes more from than than from a sour mash or kettle souring process. carbonation is fine, but the body is a bit thick for the style, and there is some leftover sugar here that should have been digested. a little sloppy but not awful.

Review on my phone, so it is condensed. Pour into a 10 ounce snifter with little to no head. A nice yellow to golden color...
Smell is interesting, smells very tart lemon with some wheat tossed in for good measure.
The taste is unlike any other sour I have had. Not sure what to make of it. tartness up front like a quick jab, rolls into a smooth non-tart lemon finish, odd. the transition is very interesting, I've never had a sour that dies so quickly. Scores up due to the uniqueness and this is really enjoyable.

Sampled on tap at the brewpub.
The beer pours a cloudy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is wheat with some citrus fruit, but not much tartness. The flavor is wheat with tart lemons, but overall the flavor and tartness is a little subdued. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This was only my second beer of this style, but I was left was left wanting a little more sourness. Still, not a bad beer.

Bottle brought back from GABF 2009 and shared by Paul. Thanks! Consumed on 10/4/2009 and poured into a snifter. The beer is slightly hazy straw golden and effervescent with a fizzy, white, and quickly receding head.
The nose is fruity, primarily lemon, with prominent wheat notes. A moderate level of lactic sourness is evident, as well as moderate acidity. If this beer contains Brett, I'm unable to detect it.
The flavor is moderately sour and lactic, with a low moderate level of acidity. Lemon notes are strong, as well as a slightly grainy wheat character. The finish is dry with acidic lemon and linger lactic sourness. Again, if there's Brett I'm unable to detect it.
I've been drinking quite a bit of another brewery's Berliner Weiss with Brett lately, so it was nice to try a strictly lactic rendition.
