On tap at the Dupont Paradiso last night. This is a Belgian style stout brewed with MASH: Belgian Pilsner, Midnighte Wheat, Canadian White Wheat, Aromatic, Caramunich. Continental Hops and Saison Yeast. Flavors are Dry, Chocolate, and Rich Nobel Hops.
A moderately hazy (thanks, wheat) very dark brown with brown highlights. A dense brown head with good retention is present, leaving nice lacing. The nose is really complex and straddles the line between good and messy while always being compelling. Moderately roasty, with coffee and chocolate, this is also quite fruity with banana. The saison yeast is noticeable on the nose, and I'm not sure it quite works with the base. This is quite rich. On the palate, it really is an amalgamation of coffee grounds, chocolate, moderate hoppiness, some fruit and some spice. Light in body, moderately carbonated and with a complex, slightly messy finish, this beer is quite interesting.
