My favorite brew from the promising Mudhook Brewery in York, PA. Nice take on the American IPA.
Pours a bright orange with a nice head on it. Smell is immediately present. Citrus hops, and floral notes.
Taste is hoppy and a bitter. A little bit of a gasoline taste on the finish, but otherwise very nice smooth and complex. The best of Mudhook's current lineup in my opinion.

On tap @ the Mudhook Brewing Company (York, PA) on 12/9/11. Served in a pint glass.
Pours a clear golden copper, with a ½ finger of smooth bright-white head. This maintains some creamy bunching around the edges of the glass, leaving back a foamy cascade of light spotty lace behind that sticks. The aroma smells floral and piney, with a good bit of dankness. This is undercut by zesty grapefruit character that blends in nicely with the tangy sweetness of caramel malts. This just has brightness to it that I didn’t expect, with that fresh herbal character (which has an almost clover feel to it) really leading the way here.
The taste has a solid bitter bite, with a flavorful combo of grapefruit and pine, which is nicely complimented by those same fresh and vibrant herbal notes from the nose. A flush of sticky caramel comes out the back, offering up some delicious malt support here while still the focus of those profile on those American hops. This ends with a dry and resinous finish that sticks to the tongue. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp feeling on the tongue, with a smooth oily creaminess across the back that keeps this relatively easy feeling and works nicely with an already well hid ABV here.
Well color me shocked! This was a very good take on an American IPA! There’s lots of fresh, flavorful, and well balanced hop power to this, which was packaged up nicely in a crisp yet still smooth body. Maybe the beers are finally starting to come around at this place. I hope this is an indication of where things are going.
