Visited Nikl on 26SEP15. First rode the train from Bamberg to Ebermannstadt and looked around there. I then walked to Pretzfeld and had lunch at Nikl.
Pretzfeld is a small village in a very rural area of Franconia. The building housing Nikl looks like it could have been a big-ass barn at one point. Off the street there is first a large courtyard, and then 8 or so long picnic tables and a few large umbrellas fronting the brewpub. Enter the doorway in the middle and you'll first find a sales-counter on the right with some 4-packs to go, and a shelf-unit at the immediate left with their larger sized, specialty craft offerings. Hang a left into the main dining Stube. It's a bright, airy room with wall benches lining all the way around. There are about 8 or 9 solid, light-wood tables seating from 4 to 12 people in the Stube. Save for the light-colored beams and frames, it is a bright, white area, with photos of the local scenery and beer-related items on the walls and shelves.
Service was Germanicly solid and efficient throughout. They had 3 tap biers during my visit, a Weißbier, a Summer Ale and a Festbier. Also in bottles were the aforementioned specialties, 0.75l bottles of different bocks aged with bourbon, tequila, etc. My Festbier was solid but unspectacular. My meal, though, was a killer: Altfränkisches Biergulasch mit Butterspätzle. Hit the spot, big time!
Nikl is not a place to make a special pilgrimage to, but worth a visit if you're in the area. Would like to try the 0.75l offerings sometime, though one should set aside ~15€ for those; a touch pricey!
Prosit!!
