If a Russian Imperial Stout is a big stout brewed for Russia, what is a big stout brewed with hazelnuts imported from Georgia, a country bordering Russia? We maintain that it should be called a Georgian Imperial Stout. So now that’s a thing. This is a sipping beer, with strong notes of chocolate and roasted nuts, all with the viscosity of warm syrup. This is cold beer though, not warm syrup, so it tastes way better. Although we would recommend you let it warm up a bit in the glass before sipping.

It starts out with a small amount of brown head that leaves a ring bubbles around the glass and some decent lacing. Somehow, it looks pretty thick.
There is roast and nuttiness in the smell -- although I'd say it's a bit more like salted peanuts than hazelnuts -- but mostly it smells like tons of dark cocoa.
The flavor is more bitter and roasty (bordering on burnt) than I was expecting from the smell. There's still plenty of dark chocolate and nuttiness and a hint of salt, but it leads with a robustness, stout bitterness.
Mouthfeel is possibly the best part. It's rich and fudgy.
I'm kind of wishing I'd picked up a second or third bottle instead of just one. I do wish that the hazelnut flavor came through a little more strongly without so much bitterness.

22 oz bottle.
Pours near black and near opaque.
Hazelnuts lend a not entirely pleasant aroma but work better in tasting where there's a generous load of dark roasted grains. Well hidden alcohol.
Good, full body.

22 ounce bottle - $11.99 at Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.
Appearance: The latest in the Black Tie series pours an inky black body with a surging, dense brown foam cap. Modest lacing.
Smell: Monday Night's GIS harbors a strong, forward aroma of straight-up roast and notes of gooey bitter-leaning chocolate, those Amazon Prime-shipped Georgian hazelnuts, smoky molasses and a small showing of burnt, blistered dark fruits thoughtfully tied with a wide ribbon of warm alcohol.
Taste: Well-roasted, blackened maltiness with a heavy dark chocolate tone, along with some charred sugar, burly blackstrap molasses and toasted, ground nuts. Certainly a sweet brew, but some of the sharpness imparted by the roasted grains, the hops and (oh my) the booze help subdue it somewhat. A little drip of prune juice, a hint of creosote. Plenty of alcohol warmth throughout, though not hot. Roasty, rather full finish with lingering warmth as it descends the gullet.
Mouthfeel: Fullish, heavy body. Medium-light carbonation. Rather plush, creamy mouthfeel.
Overall: I liked it and I would purchase the product again.
