Slap Fight will woo you in with a West Coast-style malt bill, but slaps you across the face with its tropical hop profile. Light in body, heavy in character, this IPA features Munich and Crystal pale malts for a clean, rich mouthfeel. Comet, Equinox and Mosaic hops lend a pungent herbal aroma, peppered with hints of papaya, orange and grapefruit. Present this beer to a friend. If he does not drink it immediately, slap him as hard as you can. Repeat.

I had a few of these while visiting Tuscaloosa, poured from bottles at Chuck's Fish while enjoying great sushi. The beer is a gold color, moderately cloudy with a thick white head. Nice aroma mix of fruit and bread. Underlying malt and herbal/earthy notes. The taste is pleasant. More fruit comes out in the taste, along with a solid mid-taste bitterness. Medium body and really enjoyable.

Draft at Chicken & Beer in ATL airport. Poured a clear, golden orange color with a small, white head of fluffy foam. It left sudsy lacing. It smelled of orange, resin and bready malt. Sweet caramel taste with orange and a piney bite.

Had Slap Fight at the Monday Night Social Club taproom, Birmingham, Ala., on draft into shaker.

Pours yellow-gold with clarity and huge, very creamy near-white head, and great retention, leaving chunky rings of lace down the glass. Sweet lime aroma off pour, which grows and continues, with a little funky melon and earthy aromas, then aromas of pineapple and peach as warms, and finally a little mosaic berry aroma. On tasting, begins with a mild malt body, then lots of sweet lime, with only mild citrus zest, and some pineapple, soon interrupted by big pine, with resurgent lime, and some nice hop spice joining the decently bitter finish.

Citrus and tropical, and piney and clean as befits the style, with depth befitting a 5.8 IPA.

LOOK: Pours a bright and very clear light gold. No haze at all with a nice full all white head with some really good retention and solid side glass lace.
AROMA: Dank and mildly peppery hops with subtle citrus notes and a malt backbone.
TASTE: More of the same, peppered hops, pine nuts, a touch of citrus with a bitter side and drying finish.
I liked it just fine.

Picked up a 12 oz single can as part of a mixer sixer from the Ingles on Airport Road cooler 11-15-24 for $11.99. Canned on 10-8-24; "Slappiest" by 2-8-25. Consumed on 1-3-25.

Beer poured a clear light orange with a nice white head that is leaving some lacing behind.

Nose is very herbal, peppery, with a slight hint of citrus and tropical hops.

Taste is a light pale malt base that elicits a light touch of grapefruit and orange and perhaps some mango. Mosaic dominates as i get a good dose of pine bitterness that lets one know this is an IPA; 7/10 on my bitterness scale.

Mouthfeel is light bodied and refreshing.

Overall, i really like this mostly old school WCIPA where citrus and pine dominate and because of its near sessionability.

SLAPPIEST BY 07/29/24

A: Slightly hazy light amber with short-lived 1-finger off-white foamy head with average retention but a healthy band of lacing.

S: Lightly dank, herbal aroma with light citrus and a hint of caramel malt.

T: Flavor is innocuous with light caramel malt character carrying throughout the palate with low-intensity grapefruit, orange, and pine resin. Bitterness is moderate and without significant esters.

M: Feel is thick but slick with medium body and the caramel malt character hurts the finish by decreasing dryness.

O: Not really a great example of modern WCIPA given the light but persistent caramel malt character but enjoyable as an old-school example but light on aroma and flavor.
