22oz bottle from my brother (thanks Eric!). Bottled 4/5/16. Served in a Monday Night snifter.
Pours oil black with two fingers of thick mocha head. The foam fades but a quick swirl quickly produces a thin veneer. The dark halo leaves a few patches of crusty lacing.
Aromas of chocolate covered cherries, toasted hazelnuts, scotch and vanilla. Smells outstanding.
Flavor follows the nose but opens up with even more rich layers. Chocolate, hazelnuts, vanilla, caramel, scotch, stone fruit, oak, roasty malts, brown sugar, seedy berries, an occasional, vague, bitter pineyness that somehow fits. The alcohol presence is remarkably mellow given the abv so this is dangerously easy to drink. Absolutely delicious.
Thick, rich, sludgy, satiny feel with restrained carbonation. The decadent finish is reminiscent of scotch soaked chocolate covered toasted hazelnuts.
Fantastic work from Monday Night here. The already rich Georgian Imperial is raised to whole new levels by spending time in Scotch barrels. This is the second Garage Club release that I've been fortunate enough to try and I must say these releases operate on a significantly higher level than Monday Night's standard fare.
