500mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 12.99. Fall 2018 release. Served in a Monday Night snifter. Enjoyed 11/20/18.
Pours a deep, fully opaque russet with a generous cap of thick ecrue froth. Once the head finally dissipates it is survived by a hearty island and modest crown. Some large splotches of lace decorate the glass where the initial foam had rested.
Smells of dark fruit, cooked caramel, bourbon and bread. That likely sounds much simpler and less inviting than this really is.
Flavors are at once boozey, sweet and smooth. Bourbon-soaked wood, burnt caramel, fruit skins, bread pudding, leather, a vague floral bitterness, a hint of cocoa and a little alcohol.
Velvety, medium full feel with fairly light carbonation. The emphasis remains on bourbon, wet wood, caramel and dark fruit throughout the finish.
The Garage facility has proven to be a great investment by Monday Night. Last Will and Testament is the latest in a parade of delicious barrel aged brews to come out of there. An excellent take on barrel aged old ale that can hang with many of the best examples of the style.
