500mL bottle picked up at the brewery. Released 11/2018. Served in a Monday Night snifter. Enjoyed 1/6/19.
Pours an almost opaque mahogany with a hearty cap of manilla froth. The head shrinks to some surface haze and fluffy crown, leaving some scattered splotches of lace.
Smells of baked cinnamon apples, bourbon and caramel macchiato. Those elements blend better than I ever would have expected and I just can’t help myself from repeatedly bringing the glass back to my nose.
The bready, caramel notes of the base are actually the first things I taste. Coffee creeps in next, followed by bourbony oak, cinnamon and a little applesauce.
Smooth, medium body with pillowy carbonation. Caramel, cinnamon and bourbon in the finish.
Glad to see Monday Night releasing some cool variants of their barrel aged brew that started it all. I would have liked to taste more of apple that I’d smelled but Apple Cinnamon Bourbon Barrel Drafty Kilt is mighty enjoyable. I hope the variants become an annual tradition.
