Chestnut amber hue with 2-finger foamy beige head with long retention and drapes of lacing.
Aroma is muted with medium caramel and light nuttiness and not much else
Flavor is rich but not as complex as you’d like. Medium caramel with date and raisin malt flavors. No hop character as it should be. Bitterness is low.
Feel is smooth with low spritz and medium body.
Good but seems like a shadow of its aggressive self.

Appearance: Pours a tawny, reddish dark brown body with a medium-small, sustained head, light beige in color.
Smell: Coffee-dunked breadcrust, a vague notion of cocoa powder with an even fainted hint of estery fruitiness and smoked grain (though, sometimes you lean for a sniff and catch a good waft of smoke and soot).
Taste: A little smokiness, some darkened breadcrusts, some touches of chocolate and coffee. A half tablespoon of brown sugar, its sweetness here is particularly low. Supported by some background fruitiness of dark cherry, plum. Slight alcohol felt on the back-half. Fairly softened, subdued finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body.
Overall: I always say there's nothing wrong with taking a solid, well-defined base beer and one-offing the absolute hell out of it. Locally, Creature Comforts is doing this with their Athena and Tritonia. Monday Night has also been delivering variations of Drafty Kilt to varying degrees of success (skip the Cinnamon Cocoa Coffee iteration, give the Maple Bacon Bourbon a go). I don't often opt for the nitrogenated options, to be far. Still, this was fairly well delivered, a nice take on the original, adding a different twist without losing sight of or squashing its original components.
