Appearance: Ink black, think khaki head with poor retention. Minimal carbonation.
Aroma: Syrupy sweet, big alcohol and nutty.
Flavor: Maple syrup, some roasted malt, praline pecans and no hops. Low bitterness. Cloyingly sweet. Strong alcohol.
Mouth-feel: Mouth coating and sticky. Hot. Low carbonation. Long sticky sweet finish.
Overall: With upfront apologies to the good folks at Monday Night Brewing, who make some fine beers, my honest review. One of those beers that is hardly a beer at all. Malt character is low, being overwhelmed by the non-traditional ingredients and hop character non-existent. Has no balance and alcohol is poorly hidden. Aroma is nice but betrays the syrup-like sweetness coming and is rudely interrupted by big alcohol notes. Between the strong alcohol aroma and flavor, syrupy sweet flavor and sticky mouth feel, this beer is barely drinkable. In all seriousness, this beer should not be getting the high rating it has. Not recommended for those who enjoy well crafted beers. Recommended for those who don't like beer & want a sugar bomb to drink.
