2021 vintage, into a snifter.
Pours a jet black with plenty of foam, surprisingly good for its age. Aroma is heavy on the vanilla and fudge, very sweet, alongside some oak. Flavor is very coffee-forward, with some licorice and almost root beer flavors. It's slightly bittersweet but not as chocolatey as I thought it would be. The vanilla tastes artificial and the barrel presence is low. There's a lot of harsh flavors at here that I really don't like. I feel like if they were much more natural and smooth, I'd really love this beer, but in its current state either it aged poorly or the adjuncts added ruined it. Mouthfeel is good, quite slick and heavy enough, and the body is great, quite high.
Overall, the flavor ruins this one. I thought this would be another hit for Monday Night, but along the way this one got medicinal and not good.
