RTJX is infused with botanically derived terpenes. Red Viper wheat and corn grits from DaySpring Farms bring a distinct softness to this 6.5% Southern crusher.

Fresh Motueka, Nelson Sauvin Cryo, Nectaron and Citra Cryo (all generously donated by our friends at NZ Hops and Yakima Chief Hops), deliver a beautiful bouquet of tropical fruit and resinous delight. Finally, the terpenes add a subtle wave of fresh sour diesel and candied pineapple.

Pours cloudy dark gold. Fluffy, soapy white lacing. Scent is a mix of citrus and pine. Taste is more bitter, dank, and piney than citrusy, but there’s plenty of juicy flavor. Medium bodied, almost dry finish, boozier than the ABV. A nice middle ground between NEIPA and West Coast style. Better than rated.

Month-old can poured into a tulip.

Straight pineapple juice fluid, murky and a little muddy looking, but with a big head of sudsy bubbles after an aggressive pour. Solid retention and nice sticky lacing for a 6% beer.

Wonderfully dank on the nose, with a full-on weed and green onion vibe. Vineous grape skins and tropical fruits lurk behind the dankness, though the latter is admittedly pretty overpowering — I’m a sucker for that so don’t mind, but it may be a big turnoff for others. There’s a unique peppery note plus some pine resin. Really unique nose that screams Nelson, and I’m digging it in a big way. But you really need to like deep, weedy dankness.

Flavor profile is much, much milder, with the dankness backed down to some much more approachable and the fruit juiciness coming through a little heavier. But it’s a very dry and simple set of tasting notes, with pithy citrus, kiwi, wine grapes, and some underripe tropical fruit. Some lasting pale ale bitterness and a little crackery malt. Very clean and easy-drinking, while still giving you some green dankness. Not bold or particularly nuanced, but very easy drinking.

Soft and silky feel and well carbonated, but a little bit thin.
