really epic stuff, these guys have impressed me to a crazy degree over the years and these wild and spontaneous beers i reckon are what they do best, despite so little apparent fanfare, these are next level, and this series appears to be a blend of multiple vintages of spontaneous beer in the gueuze style, but then conditioned on must from sangiovese grapes, massive thanks to my homie for procuring, saving, and making a point to share this bottle with me, exactly the type of beer im always amped about, and exactly the kind of friends that make life worth living. decent color on this, more pinkish red than purple and true red wine colored, almost more raspberry looking than grape, a little dullness with some sediment but it doesnt look messy, some carbonation in suspension but not showing a lot of head in the glass. killer nose on this, real mature lambic-type funk, tannins from oak and grape alike, vinous indeed with some medium red berry character and plenty of acidity, currant maybe, and some grainy depth, wheaty and rugged and raw, definitely seems authentic, and i see on the bottle the methode traditionnelle stamp on the side next to the 2023 vintage designation, so turbid mash confirmed. flavor rules too, lots of fruit but not at the expense of the ferment, some slightly peppery saison character meets white and red wine fruitiness and sharpness, brett and bacteria together, juicy but mouthwatering, tart and dry, quite a bit of wheaty body all through it, sharply acidic as it warms, true to the grape, really wild and well developed, love the older beer in the blend coming through. subtle cranberry, lemon, and cedar character to me. fairly sturdy feeling, musty and interesting and odd even on the ferment, maybe not quite as masterful as some of their very best, but pretty special stuff nevertheless, and i am real keen to try some of the other grape varietals they have done this with. monday night deserves to be celebrated, their wild stuff is always a treat!
