Schumacher LatzenbierSchumacher Latzenbier

Pours a clear, deep, dark amber, brownish coloration with a large, frothy head and visible carbonation. Smells of bready malt, with a strong red berry note and just a hint of honey. Taste is a very good balance of slightly sweet, bready, grainy malt and hoppy notes of red berries, melon, citrus and grass. There's also a hint of toffee and honey to this. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some malt, berry and honey notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth moutfeel with a medium body and carbonation. Like all of Schumacher's offerings, their Sticke-Alt is surprisingly hoppy for the style, but still has some firm malt backbone to it. The certain sweetness is balanced nicely by a good bitterness. Surprisingly light and refreshing for a Stick-Alt, but quite nice in its own way. I would love to know what hops they used in this, but would bet money on Huell Melon.

Bottle from Brauerei.

Nice white head, which looks really delicious.

Mild aroma of fruits, berries, plums and chocolate.

Color is much brighter, compared to the "Uerige Sticke", of rich deep bronze, red and brown. Deep chocolate, caramel, raisins, wood, roasted toast flavours, paired with burned malts, very refreshing, dry and hoppy finish, never missing a nice, strong malt backbone. Finish adds complexity to it, because of the still lingering malt. Finish is very long, a bitter taste is still there. Very different compared to the "Uerige Sticke", much milder, deep and complex malt body, lovely.

This is a special beer that Schumacher sells only a couple of times a year, today is one of them, the third Thursday of November. It is sold both on draft and in large litre bottles to go.

Reddish brown with a nice light tan head that is lofty. Nice lacing. Smells of sweet malt and some bitter hop notes. The taste is initially the sweet malt, some honey is detected. Immediately following comes the hops with some mild bitterness. The aftertaste is slightly bitter and dry. Light/medium in body with has nice fine carbonation. This beer goes down quite easily but packs a bit more punch than their regular offering so watch out!
