Tried this at a tap takeover at tap and mallet. So happy this was served in a snifter. The smell is so good. Pours a foggy deep golden color. Beautiful floral nose. Taste is tart but refreshing. Wish I could drink this all summer but I don't know if it is available. Cucumber, citrus, and a lot of green tea.

Had at a tap take over.

Wow what a beer. This is layered and spot on with the cucumber then green tea then lemongrass. You smell each one then the mouthful is zinggy with cucumber rounding and green tea spice and a hint of the greens of lemongrass.

I would drink this beer all summer if I could.

Battle of the Barrels 2014: Sunny Ridge Pilsner aged with Green Tea, Cucumbers, Gooseberries and Lemongrass.

A- Poured from a 32oz growler to two pint glasses with a cloudy, golden body with perhaps a tinge of green to it but not obvious. A head fails to rise as the carbonation isn't exactly super high but a small white cloud forms on the beer. Tiny ring leaves only a few spots of lace.

S- The floral green tea and lemongrass herbs make up most of what I get in this aroma, cold and warm. Slight bit of cucumber and some fruitiness but I can't quite say it screams gooseberry to me, perhaps a mix of that and the base yeast.

T- Cucumber opens up quite a lot here with vegetable and rind notes but isn't dominant. I get more gooseberries here and it reminds me of gooseberry juice I purchased once. The other two big flavors are once again the floral green tea and herbal lemongrass. The overall flavor reminds me of a nice, high quality tea with just a bit of base Pilsner peeking through.

MF- Light end body with a silky and somewhat creamy texture but the lack of high carbonation might take away from this texture a bit. Bubbles are low but nothing close to flat. This is not a huge surprise in a growler anyways. Finishes with some tea and hoppy bitterness.

The flavor is made up of four major players and they work well together. Lemongrass and green tea is an obvious combination but the cucumber and gooseberries play well with those. Certainly not something I would call balanced but still glad I tried it and you can see what they were going for.
