Collaboration with Mikkeller Brewing NYC

Oatis, My Man – brewed in collaboration with Mikkeller NYC Brewing, brings together new and old world traditions. Oatis is a super soft, pillowy lager, delicately hopped with Saaz and Hallertau blanc hops. This approachable, semi-sweet oated Helles is a staff favorite that we are excited to share with you.

Pours a clear yellow with soft, fine head.

Smell is clean and bready with notes of crackers and citrus along with floral hints and some rye.

Taste is soft, clean and floral. Notes of crackers, citrus and oats. Mild bitternes and very crisp and refreshing.

Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a terrific lager, just as good as the Mikkeller NYC version.

16 oz can poured into a tulip pint glass. Pours a straw yellow with a rocky off-white head. Aroma and taste are lightly floral/grassy hops with a bready graininess. Mouthfeel is soft and moderately carbonated.

A- 16oz can pours into a tall mug with a mostly clear light golden yellow body. A three finger, thick and foamy white head rises up instantly with great retention and seem to grow in the glass, very slowly, for much longer than other beers (those oat sugars?). Extreme head retention and massive piles of lacing.

S- As you might expect in a Helles the malts are the driving force and the hops are there for balance and contrast to the sweet, grainy barley. Cereal, crackery, bready, sweet and particularly grainy pale barley leads into floral, spicy and grassy hops.

T- The oats definitely come into play here as they layer a bit of an added sweetness and a slight hint of oats onto the already strong pale barley malt base. Cereal grains, bread and moderately high sweetness from the grains with grassy, spicy, floral and herbal hops giving some balance. Just a touch of pale fruits but a clean fermentation mostly.

MF- The oats make the biggest difference here. The beer has a truly silky flow on the tastebuds and is incredibly soft despite a very high end carbonation. Medium-heavy bodied for this style and fluffy textured.

The aroma is spot on for a Helles and the oats give this beer something unique both in the flavor and the body that makes it worth trying just for that reason. Silky smooth and super soft but in the end the residual sweetness just gets to be a bit uncomfortable despite a fairly strong hop balance.

Served from the tap in a 16 oz. tulip. A nice pale head that dissipates fast; the beer poured slightly cloudy with an orange tint to the usual pale helles color. On the nose, it's fresh bread plus a touch of yeasty sweetness. The flavor follows suit with a big dose of classic helles sweetness tempered a bit by the soft mouthfeel brought on by the oats. It's a stronger flavor profile than many helles, which is all to the good as far as I'm concerned; the mouthfeel is velvety soft, almost like a nitro beer. Overall, this is an exceptional beer.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 6/13/19 into the test glass.
A - Summer straw color, gentle and determined carbonation moves top side. A thin white cap resides through the experience.
S - Floor pilsner malt, grassy hops move like a zephyr, across the nose. A hint of lemongrass hides behind the curtain.
T - Excellent grain display, cracker, with a bit of jam, excellent narrow band this stays on.
M - A bit full, (oats) on the palate, carbonation is clean, leading to a nice dry finish.
O - What a really nice offering, body has some heft, grains are all on display, just enough hop bittering brings the experience full circle.

Semi clear light golden color with a 2F head in a Pilsner glass.

Strong fruity aroma, champagne like.

The taste transitions well into a stronger fruity taste.

Smooth MF, dry, crisp lightly bitter finish.

Another excellent lager from Jacks Abby. Great to see the the collaboration with Mikeller.

Best appreciated at colder temps.
