Jack's Abby Brewing "Excess IPL - Mosaic"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 02/28/19"
$3.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a fairly hazy golden body beneath a massive head of bright white foam - it's actually rising out of the glass. The aroma suggests sweet berries, flowers, pine, and tropical fruit (melon, lychee, guava, orange). It's fairly bright, and it should be, but it's also delicate in a way. Flowers and fruit, for example, are far and away from heavy "dank" notes, earthiness, spice, and pine. There's some malt there as well, sweetish and grainy, and even seemingly wheaty although I'm guessing that's just perception. On to the flavor... well the berries return, and that's clearly due to the Mosaic hops. Very nice! It's less floral than the aroma suggests it might be, which is fine by me. I'm still getting tropical fruits and I'm also finding some peach, mango, and papaya, more guava, less melon, and just a touch of grapefruit and pine. It's a really interesting flavor, quite intense, and different from any other beer that I've ever had. It's nicely balanced and it finishes dry, fruity, and floral. It's medium leaning towards medium-full in body and smooth with a moderate carbonation. In the end the head held up well and it left some very nice lacing about the glass. I'd say that this one, although well made, will probably fall to personal preference as to how much you like it in the end but that it's certainly worth trying to see if it's your cuppa tea.
