Style: Bière de Garde

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This lager is brewed in the French farmhouse style. We add our own twist by adding 30% Rye Malt, locally grown Triticale from MA and amber Belgian candy sugar. We leave this beer slightly hazy to accentuate the mild fruity yeasty character. Copper in color, a spicy Rye flavor emerges in a dry yet malty finish after lagering for five weeks near freezing.

The appearance has a hazy reddish-amber body, one finger white foamy head that quickly dies, no lacing whatsoever. The smell has pears and apples in front, some light rye and grassiness coming through. The taste is spicy yet sweet yet peppery as a fair amount of a nice rye peppery flavoring comes through to spice things up a bit and make it feel more than it should be. On the palate, it sits about a medium body, sessionable, and has a good adequate carbonation. Overall, what a nice Biere de Garde that has been lagered enough for it to be considered to be a lager. Good for Jack’s Abby, as I would have this again.

Appearance: Clear amber red with a head off white in color around an inch in height.

Aroma: Golden raisins, pear, dates, faint notes of white grapes, apple.

Taste: Very crisp mouthfeel. Pear, dried fruits, apple, white grape, apricot. The finish is nice and dry with lots of yeasty notes.

Notes: The dryness is great and very good example of the style. Cheers.

Clear amber with a creamy, off-white cap. Good head retention. Lemony aroma, nutty, toffee, fruity and bready. Lemon bitterness with a spicy finish. Notes of mint, nuts, slight toffee and malt, with lingering herbal hops. Light bodied, slightly slick, creamy carbonation. Very drinkable and quite enjoyable.

16.9oz bottle purchased as a single from Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass with a 1/2" beige head over the cloudy coppery amber brew. Head fades promptly down to a solid layer of froth, with leggy lasting lace. Aroma is nutty fruity wort.

Taste follows the nose, nutty sweet to start, fruity in the middle, with a balanced close. Mouthfeel is smooth, and drinkability is good. Yet another nice brew from these guys.
