Appearance: Pours fudge brown verging on black; the head is rather scrawny and fades quickly though the lacing action is decent enough
Smell: Chocolate, smoke and blueberry
Taste: Chocolate and blueberry, up front, with a hint of smoke developing; builds some caramel sweetness, after the swallow, along with a hint of coffee in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I was expecting a bigger beer for the 1st anniversary; this is not bad but it lacks depth
Thanks, kbuzz, for the opportunity

My first bottled offering from Helltown. Bring on the next. As soon as possible.
Very dark on the pour with a tan head that falls quickly. Malty sweet nose with some smoke on there also. Tastes pretty thick. I got a lot of mesquite on the first sip. There is certainly some there on the following draws, though not quite as severe. The defining feature really is the smoke. And thankfully it's not too obnoxious or overdone; it's just right. I look forward to the next anniversary beer from Helltown and as many after that which come.

22oz bottle from the brewery, served in a standard pint
A - short-lived mocha brown foam, settles still - threads that fine line between really deep murky brown and black
S - lightly charred, roasted malts with a tiny hint of nutty-fruitiness. coffee (was told this was brewed with locally roasted beans) works its way into the nose more and more as the beer warms.
T - roasty malts lead way to smooth milk chocolate and toasted nuts. the coffee is present but not overwhelming - could be the fact that i drink strong black coffee like tap water.
M - incredibly creamy, oats adding an abundance of mouthfeel which balances the slightly acidic dark malts wonderfully
O - somewhere between a classic Oatmeal Stout, Robust Coffee Porter, and American Imperial Stout. alcohol is damn near impossible to detect. a fine warming beer for the winter.
