Poured from a 22 oz. bomber with New Dimension Comics artwork on the label. "A blended barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout". Bottle #983 of 1986 - Commemorating the year New Dimension Comics was founded. "A Mourning Brew"
Pours dark and thick as motor oil with two fingers of chocolate head which dissipates quickly. Nice looking stout.
Nose of roasted malt and bourbon. Nose gets sweeter as the beer warms
Mouthfeel is medium-heavy with very limited carbonated influence.
Taste is WAY more subtle that I would have thought. Dark fruits in the beginning followed closely by dark chocolate and a slight, but balancing hop bitterness. The barrel and bourbon don't come in until the end and continue into the aftertaste. Not overwhelming like many BBA stouts. Very balanced and warming. Excellent job, Helltown!
Overall an outstanding BBA Imperial Stout which I am increasingly enjoying as it warms to the room.
