Purgatory
On tap poured into a shaker pint
A: very golden with a slight haze a little head that disappears quickly
S: it smells like rye a little piney
T: very rye forward lots of bitterness pretty hoppy but the taste of the hops is muddled
M: medium heaviness slightly syrupy
O: it's average it's a rye ipa nothing special or stands out about it. Wow had no idea this was some type of Summer Ale with German hops it's so bizarre and average

If this is your first Helltown beer, I can guarantee that their others are not like this.
This is a weird beer, and not at all what I expect to be getting from Helltown. This German/English hybrid seems fairly evident, but it's just...weird. Odd mix of flavors: tangy, nutty, very mild spicy. No cohesion, as it just seems all over the place. This is weird, and it just doesn't work. At all. Can I find an IPA from Helltown already, for the love of Pete.

Helltown : Purgatory
LOOK: Pours a pale hazed gold color with a white foam collar.
SMELL: Sweet citrus hops, honey like malt.
TASTE: Citrusy hop character like fresh squeezed oranges, complimented by a mild bitterness and a firm maltyness. Malt flavor is rich with suggestions of cocoa and tree nuts. Finishes with a bitter citrus punch and a tangy English ale yeast expression. This is a well balanced brew.
FEEL: Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation.
OVERALL: English Pale Mild is a good descriptor of this beer. The hops used were a bit more American, but it works great here. Helltown is a fine little brewery and so far everything they've done has been excellent.

An emailed reply from Shawn at Helltown notes that they call this an English Style Summer Ale.
Pours a very hazy dirty blonde. Head retaining okay for the lack of height.
A little tinny, a little toasty, a little apple-y, and a lot musty. Can't wrap my head around it. Pungent enough to be smelled two feet away.
Soapy and bitter with a flamboyant ale yeast. Toasted grains with the husks left on. Citrusy hops that aren't sweet. Nutty and almost woody. English style balance.
Low on carbonation all the way to the finish where it zips a bit. Wet medium body that feels nice.
I'm gonna call this one a pale mild bordering on a bitter, because the hops are soft enough. Not bad. I'd dig into another one.
