Murky dark brown tootsie roll color when poured into a mug, large head of tan foam when poured straight down the middle. This seems to help release the carbonation a little bit. Foam settles to a broken skim and ring of frothy bubbles around the edges.
Muted aroma of real peanut butter, lightly sweet and nutty with pleasant milk chocolate undertones. So far so good.
Flavors are authentic, definitely taste real peanut butter and dry bitter chocolate that linger nicely in the aftertaste. There's some light roasty bitterness and it's not sweet at all. Unfortunately some mineral astringency and a thin body put a damper on the beer overall. If this were a bit smoother and fine tuned it could be great... it has room for improvement, like many Woodman beers.
Purchased from Jenifer St. Market's cold room. There was a stack of many mixed cases here, about 5-6 varieties. I'd be cautious to only buy this if stored cold as it's unpasteurized and contains peanuts, given past instances of infection with Short's PB&J.
