The Glutenberg Gose is qualified as a sour beer. Its lime and lemon aromas are enriched by the floral and fruity profile of Mandarina Bavaria hops and by a touch of acidity resulting from lactobacilli fermentation. Finally, a pinch of sea salt gives the Gose sweet and salty notes, resulting in a tangy beer with a dry and bold finish.

Happy CANada Day, hosers! Take off, eh? This is one of my FAVORITE holidays of the year since it provides me with the impetus to a) drink CANned CANadian beer ISO The CANQuest (tm); b) watch hockey (either pre-recorded games or movies, like "Slapshot"; c) watch "Strange Brew"; d) eat some beaver & e) parade nekkid in the street while waving a CANdian flag. 2017 was their 150th Anniversary so I pulled out all of the stops, using sparklers & firecrackers as accoutrements, which was attention-getting, to say the least. The local CANstabulary was bemused & amused as they led me away, but I was less-than-thrilled with the 1st & 2nd degree burns, especially to my sensitive bits! Needless to say, I have scaled back since then.
From the CAN: "100% Gluten Free*100% Great Beer"; "Ingredients: Water, Millet, Buckwheat, Quinoa, Lime, Lemon, Grapefruit, Sea Salt, Hops, Yeast".
I had "Rush's Greatest Hits" playing on YouTube as I Crack!ed open the vent. I really liked their Witbier & now I was looking forward to what seemed to be a natural. I agitated this one in the CAN so a quick C-Line Glug was the next order of the day. It puffed up really quickly to form just under two fingers of foamy, fizzy, soapy, off-white head with moderate retention that soon reverted to wisps. Color was a downright cloudy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose smelled like salted grapefruit! I love grapefruit. This had all the earmarks of a winner. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, but not out of spec for the style. OMFG, was this tart! Taste was obviously driven by all of the citrus fruits, but it was marred by the nuttiness of buckwheat. 8=( It is a trade-off in crafting a gluten-free beer that buckwheat, millet & sorghum are needed to create fermentable sugars, but the taste of buckwheat is a specialized taste, one that PapPap Kirsch did not pass on to me. Other than that, it was deeply citrusy-tart with a beautiful saltiness. Finish was quite tart & dry & a perfect fit for a hot, humid Summer's evening. I have to downgrade it when rating to style, but don't let that deter you from trying this one. YMMV.

16 ounce can poured into a tulip glass.
L---Cloudy, golden color with a bunch of particulates floating around. Sediment quickly settled. Thick, white rocky head with good retention. Good lacing.
S---Lemon is the main identifiable smell. There is an unidentifiable funky tartness as well.
T---Tastes almost like a lemon/lime soda. Sweet and also tart. There's a light salty note as well. Mildly tart, but not enough tart/sour.
F---More juicy than sour or tart. Definitely quenching.
O---I don't know if it seemed a bit off due to the gluten free aspect of it, but I don't care about gluten free, it was still a bit off. I like gose beer, but this one is not near the top of my list. Alcohol is really light in this one. I know this site says 4.5%, but my can had 3.5% printed right on it.

A thanks to the captain of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of lemons and limes. Taste is lemon/lime, salt, tart, very dry. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, my expectations of this beer were very low. I'm not a fan of gose, or gluten free beers, but this one ain't bad.

473ml can - cool to see this gluten-free brewery attempting some of the more esoteric styles out there.
This beer pours a murky, pale golden straw colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, finely foamy, and fizzy bone-white head, which leaves some decent splattered and sudsy lace around the glass as it quickly recedes.
It smells of lemon/lime soda, overripe grapefruit, white saltine crackers, a hovering sour yeastiness, and some indistinct grainy notes. The taste is bready and grainy malt, a further sour mustiness (yeast or buckwheat, I'm not certain), muddled domestic citrus peel, a touch of vanilla, saltwater, and a very mild earthy and estery floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite mild in its laissez-faire frothiness, the body an adequate medium weight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess evolving as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes a bit on the sweet side, with that fleshy citrus character presiding.
Overall, this is a fairly well-rendered version of the style, starting with the fact that it's hard to tell that it was made without wheat or barley. The reliance on the lemon, lime, and grapefruit sure helps the cause, and all the other flavours fall into place. Good stuff, and just tart enough to encourage repeat visits.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty yellow color Gose with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of lemon and tart notes is pretty enticing. Taste is a mix of lemon notes and tart notes with light grainy notes. Body is full with less filtration then I am used for Gose with good carbonation. Solid take on the style and love the lemony notes.
