Stout Impériale Russe (Fût De Bourbon)

Deep dark brown where no light passes even on the edge of the glass. Not much of a head and it settles to rim bubbles quickly. A couple of small spots on the glass.

Milk chocolate and chalk are the two main smells I get. A bit like powdered cocoa.

Dark, burnt malt start. There's a touch of cream mid-taste. The swallow has some alcohol warmth and bitterness. Ash-like aftertaste with some semisweet chocolate. Moderate body and carbonation. I get a bit of berry late in the taste.

 

Pours black, opaque with a nice mocha head. Leaves traces of lacing. Overpowering bourbon nose. Unfortunately no bourbon is present in the taste, some hints of roasted malts and cocoa. Very sweet. Mild carbonation, quite smooth almost creamy. Unpleasant aftertaste but cannot quite put my finger on the flavour. I wouldn't search for this brew again.
