Ruby red grapefruit, grapefruit pith, unripe mango and pine. Biscuit malt. Medium bodied. Nicely balanced with a good amount of sweetness. Bitter, semi dry finish. Lower carb. It's alright.

Pours a slightly hazy orange gold color with a thick 2 finger head with pretty good retention.

Aroma is sweet with pineapple hop notes mixed with a bit of citrus.

Taste is a little thin for all that hop smell. With a low amount of malt leaving a missing backbone the onus is on them to provide a compelling hop flavor up front but it seems to be weak. In fairness there is a steady sweet, pineapple-like flavor that stays consistent from start to finish but it tastes muted..

Feel is soft and there is a little stickiness on the lips. Bitterness is low.

Meh. They boldly claim this as a NEIPA on the can but it is a weak submission, getting it right with the feel yet lacking in hop sophistication. Maybe they think getting pineapple notes is enough to minimally qualify?

I have yet to rate one of Backlash's beers into the 4s and this is no exception. My conclusion after four ratings is that they make slightly above average beer, which is a death knell in this golden age of micro brewing where anything other than an A game will see you slip into obscurity. There's simply too many great beers out there to spend time on the others IMO... that is, if one can afford the prices :)
