No head and nearly no lacing. The color is as expected: deep dark brown where light doesn't pass.
Rich brandy like aroma of blackberries, chocolate, and alcohol.
The start of the tasting is mild but the harsher tones from the black patent malt kicks in with a darker chocolate flavor and a touch of coffee. Higher carbonation with a moderate body. The alcohol is not as prevalent until the swallow. In short, the taste doesn't live up to the aroma's promise.
