this felt conservative to me, not as dramatically hoppy as has become stylish, and with more of a malt backing than the kids seem to like these days. that said, its not a poorly made beer, it just seems dated as they go, like a bit of a relic, although its plenty drinkable still and nice with their food in here, which was impressive both in quality and in portion size! a light copper color to this, a short head on it, and a little less carbonation than i like in the style, but a nice smoothness from that grain that makes it kind of slick feeling. some pine to the hops, a good bit of bitterness, but not a ton of well defined character, they seem muted to me, especially for an ipa, but all the flavor that is here is quite agreeable, it just seems like they might be underdosed. ipa more than any other style in craft is crowded, and when compared against all others, this is wholly irrelevant, but in a local context (i had a smattering of albuquerque ipa types on my visit), this was not the worst one i encountered, not by a longshot. this is a style though, where decent, or even plain good, doesnt really thrill me anymore...

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
