I happened to be driving by Rome, Georgia, and was very surprised to see what was advertised as a microbrewery. We immediately pulled over to check the place out.

It's a big barn-like exterior on the outskirts of town. Inside there's a large dining area, a separate bar area with more seating, and a large covered outdoor space. It's decorated with various fish/ocean/gulf stuff, including a large mural and lots of fish. Nothing fancy, just a small-town hang-out kind of place that happen to be quite large. You can see five big steel brew kettles behind the bar.

Apparently this place has been around since the 1960's, but they just added brewing operations and started offering beer around April 2011 or so. They had 7 brews available: Golden Ale, Nut Brown, Pale, Wheat, Stout, IPA, and Raspberry Ale (which is their Golden with raspberry flavoring added).

We grabbed a seat at the bar and were promptly served. The beer could use some work. It's a great start, and it's fantastic to see a microbrewery in small-city Georgia, but they need to get the brettanomyces under control.

We didn't try the food, but they did bring us a complimentary basket of bread. The beers were quite a steal, at $3 a pint.

Worth a stop if you're in Rome, because it's almost certainly the only microbrewery within an hour's drive.
