Brewed for the 2015 Portland Craft Brewers Conference.
“This Gose was kettle soured with Lactobacillus brevis from Wyeast Laboratories and then fermented with Occidental’s house Kölsch yeast strain, and and uses Oregon sea salt to mimic the water profile originally used to make this style of beer. A drinkable and refreshing beer, this collaboration captures the collective styles of the contributing breweries.”

i dont know if the gose these guys are currently making is still a collaboration or not, or if they have just picked the style back up. either way, its another true to style and very well made beer from these guys, who have impressed me so far with what i have had of their beer. this is bright golden from the tap with an average white head on it, strong lemon and lime notes to the tart lactic profile, and some minerals evident. it seems like maybe more than just the white wheat malt i am used to in the style, a little light crystal barley and pils type malts could also be in play here, a bit of body and a touch of a toasted thing to it, but its tough to say. the sourness in the flavor is moderate, puckery but not acidic enough to slow me down drinking it any, and there is a cool coriander element that may also contribute to the soft toasted character i get in the taste. lemons for sure, possible mango notes as well, cereal, and then the salt, which is all at the end and adds a drying brine aspect to it, making it quick finishing and refreshing, especially with all the carbonation this has. really nice balance overall and supremely drinkable, clean on the fermentation profile, no sweaty or dusty weirdness lingering, and quite professionally made. i have really enjoyed the occidental beers i have encountered this summer! great gose here.

Bottle from Toby. Kind of a let down after the Briem Grodszis mmkie at Prost. Light aroma and taste, rich golden color with wispy head. Aroma is mostly faint malt. Taste again more malt, only slightly salty. Finishes with more malt.

Enjoyed tonight from my CBC Teku... Slightly hazed golden with a wispy white head.. Nose is grainy pils malt and wheat (I think) with a little lemony essence and something I normally associate with coriander.. Flavor mirrors the aroma with a light briny quality that adds the to the complexity... Very drinkable and very light... This is a proper gose, and not like the lactic bombs that many brewers are putting out... This beer is what a Gose is supposed to taste and smell like... North-central Germany but in the heart of PDX... Awesome.
