I might be confused, by I believe this was actually a lager, but did not fit in the category of "Euro Dark Lager" by any means.
It is a beautiful beer despite its lack of foamy and sticky presence, but the clear deep brown and crimson tinted body shines.
It smells lightly of caramel, bananas, and clove. All the essentials to a proper Belgian liquid feast.
The flavor mimics the aroma along with fig. The clove and cinnamon like spice linger while being wonderfully set in the backdrop. The banana and sweet Belgian yeast are full with a mild soapy singe at the end.
At 5.3% abv, this beer still has a moderate heft to it, but much more drinkable than say a quad or Dubbel while still being in the same vein. It's lightly carbonated which seems to be the only negative, as a much needed dryness would make this very easy consume in large quantities.
Overall, this is a unique and delicious brew. With minor tweaks, this could be an easy drinking dark alternative to warm summer month quenchers, but as it is would be a perfect fall concoction. Prost.
