Look: Dark as night with a fluffy-looking off-white head that erupts to the rim, holds for a bit, and slowly settles to a pillow, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Light roast, freshly baked brown bread, robust earthiness, and wafts of chocolate
Taste: Starts off with some nice bready malt and quickly joined by earthy notes that come on strong and flirt with overpowering the malt. Roast and light chocolate weave in and out and closes with roasted cereal grains
Mouthfeel: Full but light, clean, medium-high carbonation, and a clean and crisp finish
Overall: I dig it. I’m a huge fan of both Schwarzbiers and these folks so glad to have the chance to try this and it’s pretty good. My only minor gripe is that it comes across as a little too spicy/earthy but in a way that I can’t tell if it is by design or a flaw. Still good though and a style I could drink year-round
