It's not that this beer is bad, but I am not a fan of NW Reds. I like the malt taste in a normal Amber/Red beer, if I want a hoppy beer I'll go with an IPA or an IIPA. If I liked this style, I'd probably given it a higher rating.

never heard of further beer before i ordered this impressive pint. i had to search it up to learn its an offshoot of the acclaimed occidental, who sticks mostly to the german stuff, even though they have found a great way to be innovative in those tricky styles. this is about freeing up their brewers to play around in more modern styles and with less traditional ingredients and processes, which is really cool. not sure if it should have its own brewery listing here on BA or not, but for now i think it makes sense here under occidental. this is a really nice red beer, hoppy and modern, distinctive right away, seems almost like a style fusion, and sort of almost india red ale-esque, i liked this a whole lot. deep in color, very dark red, especially in a dimly lit pub. average head by the time it gets to our table but it looks like it may have settled back a little. the aroma on it is awesome, hoppy without necessarily being either piney or bitter, the two things i kind of expected with the northwest in the name. the hops smells fruity, red berries, new school weed, pepper, tobacco, and its so integrated into the grain, which seems toasted and kilned at the same time, and also long enough boiled for this to be concentrated down and caramelized some, which adds some glorious richness. ive learned that the hops are talus, which is so cool, i love this varietal and to see it in something other than a basic pale or ipa is way cool, its fully compatible with all this grain in here. super smooth, fully bodied, a little oily in a good way, fresh and pungent from the hops, really uniquely fruity at the end, modest bitterness only. delicious stuff, and it has me excited for more from this further operation! among my favorite red beers ive had in a long time...
