What is this? A pumpkin ale? A German rye beer? Or a spiced beer? Spice is self-described as a "German Pumpkin Rye", but the style is more like its name. On-tap at the source in a pint glass, on to the beer:
Brownish dark red colored with a few hues of orange. There is some decent head on top and a few threads of lace sticking around. The nose is just like the name, spice. Spice with a good background of malt....or is it rye?
This is one fun beer to taste. There is a kick of spice, mmore specificially pumpkin pie spices and nutmeg galore. Somehow, apple cider spices make themselves present. The big body provides an excellent canvas for these spices to compliment the grain. It's nearly full bodied, hearty, with pleasant carbonation and some crispness.
Given the other two beers of the day, Spice was a bit of a surprise. This is definately one to try at Old Orange Brewing.
