This pours a slightly hazy gold with a 1 finger head of foam with a bit of lacing around the glass.

Big grainy malt notes in the nose with a peculiar smell of some kind of hop bitter and also a strong sweetish smell.

The taste is grain with a bit of sweet, light bit of bitterness that has some grass to it but mostly it's kind of nondescript. It finishes with an earthy bitter flavour.

Pretty light bodied with plenty of carbo.

Looking at the bottom of the bottle, I see some sediment and some sludge; there's no freshness date that I can find so...this must not be a super fresh Back Seat. Still, it's not bad and easy enough to drink.

On tap at Old Orange Brewing Company in Orange, CA.

Pours a clear orange with a foamy bone colored head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and a slight grassy aroma. Taste is much the same with a herbal hop flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but nothing exciting to me.

I knew I'd be back at Old Orange, and I had a feeling new stuff would be available. There was. Let's start on the light side. On to the beer:

Flame toasted orange color, topped off quite a few rings of soft lace around the glass. Looks good. And a bit surprising, has a little better smell than I anticipated. There is a base of crackery malt, vague fruit, and orange peel. The fruitness is subtle, but it works.

By now, I was informed that agave was used to brew this blonde ale. At first, I was wondering how a usually "plain" style could have an extra kick of fruit. Now I get it. The notes of sourdough bread, orange, agave, subtle fruits, and a very light steeley note (in a good way) work to make this a refershing ale. It's light bodied, somewhat smooth, and provides a few dashes of crispness.

This is a bit better than your run of the mill blonde ale. That addition of agave gave this beer a little extra something to think about, and a little extra something to enjoy.
