Served from a 33 cl bottle bought at the brewery. The head brewer explained that it was a light amber/brown ale infused with real juniper (although I'm not clear on whether he meant berries, shoots, twigs, or which part of the plant).
A - Darkish golden/bronze color; just a hint of cloudiness. Some carbonation bubbles rising, but carbonation appears to be moderate. The head is pure white, but not very thick or persistent; made of tiny bubbles; slightly oily in appearance.
S - Aroma is a all about juniper. It comes as a hit of fresh, herbal, pine-like aroma. It reminds me of a heather beer or gruit. There is just a hint of bready malt behind it. No hops detectable. Maybe a hint of alcohol esthers. The aroma is somehow softer and more inviting than it sounds--it invites you to take a sip.
T - The juniper dominates the flavor. It is piney and mediciney, although not harsh. There is a bit of warm, bready malt in the background. Crystal malt seems to add some brown sugar and graham cracker flavors. No hops or alcohol tasted.
M - Light to medium body. Smooth carbonation. No alcohol burn. Overall bitterness (from both hops and spice?) is moderate.
O - Overall, this is an interesting and surprisingly drinkable beer. The idea of it and even the aroma gave me a little trepidation, but the overall experience is pleasant. The juniper character and light body make it somehow refreshing, although different. The piney flavor makes me think of Christmas, but this would be refreshing and drinkable any time of the year.
