A smooth drinking stout. Some heat in the finish. Nice to try, not the hottest, much malt. Private buying club. I liked it and fresher would even get more hop taste.

my first beer from these guys, a collaboration with de molen, one of my all time favorites. its a huge stout brewed with chili peppers, but even aside from those, the beer has a ton of character on its own, including a familiar yeast that i often get in de molen beers, flavorful enough to come through a big stout like this, and then a ton of dark malt ranging from burnt coffee to peaty smoke, all quite subtle except for the intensity of the dark wave itself, but the nuance is there for sure. the pepper is cool, it might have a little smoke to it as well, an ancho type thing, but a little more heat than that, i feel some warmth going down which has a reciprocal exacerbating effect with the booze in here, they seem to play each other up pretty well, but the heat is more in the throat than on the tongue, so its not a palate wrecker and i can still taste the rest of the beer. its also really late onset and fast fading, only there for a flash. some dark chocolate and burnt tobacco here, wet soil and charred oak, smooth and heavy body, warming alcohol, fine complexity. subtle cinnamon maybe too, but the pepper is first of the adjuncts. dry cocoa and coriander, interesting depth, perfectly subtle. impressive beer, seems right for a collaboration with de molen. really tasty and enormous!
