CAN
Shiny lemon; melon, banana + pineapple; bread dough, papaya puree, big lemon hard candy, then a melange of fruity esters, Tang + floral end; some fizz.

Loral, Mandarina, Lemondrop, Citra

Nose opens into feet + the esters are lager. Not dry to end. Off style for a Brut, and just… off. Magic Rock have their share of misses, but I’m disappointed to see Wylam on the label here.

Pours a slightly cloudy pale golden coloration with a medium, frothy head. Smells of citrus fruit: orange, tangerine, lime and white grape, with a light floral and strong grassy/herbal note. Taste is dominated by slightly floral orange blossom and white grape notes, with some tangerine and a strong and somewhat dank grassy/herbal, almost earthy note and mild pine as well. Finishes bone dry, with a light bitterness and hop burn, with a light acidity and herbal note lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While this has some nice citrus notes going, what stands out the most about it is its strong and well-balanced grassy, herbal and earthy notes, with a particularly strong herbal character. I think this kind of flavor profile actually works quite well in a Brut IPA.

A 500ml can with a best before date of 14th October 2019. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.

Appearance: A lightly hazy golden orange colour with a slightly less than two finger white head that had decent retention and left only sparse to no lacing.

Aroma: Grapefruit rind, lemon, melon, pine resin and herbal notes.

Taste: Light sweetness, citrusy, lemon zest, grapefruit rind, white grape, pear, floral and a touch herbal.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Nice crispness and overall drinkable. But maybe I don’t really understand this style, as I’ve yet to try one that I really enjoy.
