I had what I thought was this beer on draft at a showcase for Lancaster County Brewing so, while stopping in to get some wine, I bought a bottle at the nano. Pleasantly, this version had more heft and zip than I recalled. Rumspringa Brewing Company's Helles Bock is a cloudy deep gold in color, and the 22 ounce bomber poured up a nice head. This is a malty beer with refreshing hints of hop on the nose and finish. A touch of local, fresh Dutch Gold clover honey is used to boost the gravity. While this beer had considerable weight, and some sweetness, on the palate, it was still a very refreshing, easy drinking lager (but marked "Helles Bock Ale" on the back of the label?). At six percent, the Helles Bock has some authority and boasts the German slang term "Steil Gehen" on the label, which means to party hard, to rock out. Indeed, this is a really good beer to have fun with.
