HopDog BeerWorks are a nano-brewer based out of South Nowra, which practically makes them a local brewer to Canberra (being only a 194km drive away). The reason I haven't reviewed nor heard of them before may be due to the fact that they only have a 200 litre fermentation tank to brew with, hence the "nano" in "nano-brewer". This means that every batch they brew is a single batch (impressive commitment there!). Oh and the head brewer used to work for Lord Nelson, I like these guys already.
Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Chimay chalice.
A: Sorry to break protocol but I took an accidental whiff of the aroma and it is incredible... err, anyway, presents with a hazy orange body and a light white lacing on top.
S: Best of both worlds I say: Big pine/citric American hops with classic Belgian notes of bubblegum, candi sugar, orange peel and clove. What it does so well is how the aromas have been balanced together - it's hard to tell where the American hops end and the Belgian characters begin, fan-f**king-tastic!
T: Flavour is exactly what the aroma sets you up for: Pine/citric hops, bubblegum, candi sugar orange peel and a hint of clove/black pepper. Again the balance is superb, the hops are assertive but not overpowering and the sugar matches it well (not too sweet). A touch of grapefruit lingers in the after taste, yes hops, you are my master.
M: Medium bodied with a creamy carbonation (there's a touch of gas in there as well).
D: This is how I remember the Little Creatures Quiet American being - the best of both worlds - America and Belgium, the masters in the brewing world. What amazes me is that a nano-brewer from Australia totally nailed it with this beer. I would like to say more but I'm off to my local to get more of these bad boys...
Food match whilst my motorcycle engine warms up: Thai, Vietnamese, Belgian brassiere food... and everything else in between... bye!

Tried on tap at the GABS Festival in Melbourne, May 2013. Just a little note that irks me about the name of this beer: to follow the conventions it really should be "An American Werewolf in Brussels". Completely irrelevant and pedantic, I know, but I felt it had to be said.
Pours a champagne colour, hugely cloudy. Head is snowy white, foamy but clinging together nicely and retaining a nice finger thickness on top. Wonderful; one of the best-looking beers at the festival.
Smells largely hoppy. Lots of fruit on there with banana, apple, pear, lemon and a big fresh pineapple note. Touch of Belgian phenols lingering behind, just whispers really, but otheriwse a really lovely hop-driven aroma.
Taste is a bit more on the Belgian side. Sweet malt notes upfront that are not helped along by the hops which are also quite sweet in this case and not adding a lot of bitterness - banana and pineapple mostly. Touch of clove and then some spicy phenols on the back. Not bad.
Decent body with a little touch of carbonation. Fine for the style.
Among my favourite Belgian IPAs, and [Edit] became one of my top 5 beers of the festival. Felt a little underwhelmed at first, but gets better the more you drink it.

A - cloudy copper, massive pillow fluffy head fills Duvel tulip. Spotty clingy lace.
S - Belgian yeast, citrus, hops.
T - banana, clove, lemons, dry earthy/grassy hops finish on back plate. Add some Saison -like elements. Well balanced and hops do not dominate.
M - very lively and well carbonated. Zesty in the mouth. Nice. No noticeable alcohol for the 6.5%.
O - a return to from for the HopDog stable. Well made, flavoursome and also very drinkable beer. Could drink all too easily given ABV.
