From Leura. Bottled Apr 13.

A - murky brown, four finger head., which dies to film.

S - charred meats, licorice.

T - more char, burnt toffee, brown sugar, astringent back palate. Muted, and overly flavoursome.

M - bubbly! Yep, it's over carbonated really.

O - quite unpleasant. I was expecting a Brown Ale, but yes I get its Belgian, as there are hints of Belgian Yeast, but overall it has the same kind of BBQ taste that 2012 Wild Thing has. And the bottle notes 'age will do it good'. Not one of HopDogs better efforts.

Thanks to Tim at Hop Dog for the bottle
330 ML bottle

A-- Dark, murky brown color. Light brown head that is one finger in height, slowly fades to a thick collar. Good retention and maybe a touch overcarbonated.

S-- Candied sugar, rich dark malts, figs, brown sugar, and touches of coffee. Belgian yeast stands out well. Slight touches of plastic but not hurtful of the nose.

T-- Roasted malt, figs, toffee, coffee and very fizzy. Very carbonated. Carbonation hides the coffee and other flavors.

M-- As noted the carbonation hides the flavors too much. Highly carbonated, medium bodied. Nice finish of brown sugar, coffee and figs.

O-- Issue is the carbonation. Still a nice beer though.

Somewhat hazy brown colour with a big, dense, light tan head. Good head retention.

Some malty sweetness but there is also a tartness that is out of place. Some fruit. Slightly Belgian.

Slightly toasty, somewhat fruity, a little earthy. Nothing pops out and I don't get the fig.

Medium-light body with high carbonation. Over carbed.

Lacking depth and really interesting character. The carbonation is way over the top which doesn't help.

Pours black with ruby highlights and a massive, growing head.
Aroma include spicy phenols, faint dried figs, spciy hops, soft light fruity esters and gentle roasted malt.
Roasted malt and soft figs are the main flavours, although there's also some soft, spicy hops.
Ridiculously over-carbonated.

Purchased from Platinum, Cheers!

Pours a nice brown with amber hues.

Smell is fruity, very slightly plasticcy hops then a distinct fig smell, lending notes of earthiness, flowers, vanilla and sugar. Little bit of roast.

Taste has the dark beer coming through more, but it's more of a roasty porter than a brown ale. Some fig here too.

Mouthfeel is a highly carbed balance of roast, hop, fig and brown ale.

Overall just a really cleverly conceived take on the brown ale with an obvious fig character. Highly recommended.

HopDog is getting better and better.
