Purchased from the owner/brewmaster at the Phinney Ridge Farmers Market in Seattle, WA. Currently the only place that bottles can be acquired.
22 oz. bottle poured into a straight pint glass.
A: The beer pours a dark orange color with a medium head of white foam that quickly breaks down into a small head of foam covering the surface of the beer. Lacing is moderate but remains on the sides of the glass.
S: Hmmm... hot dog water, anyone? There are some really weird aromas here. Along with the hot dog water, I get notes of raisins and prune juice. Something isn't right here.
T: There is a strong raisin and caramel malt flavor to this beer, suggesting that something isn't quite right with the batch. No pine, no herbal notes, no fruity flavors typically associated with a pale ale. Really, I can't say anything else about it. It tastes a bit better as it warms up, but not much.
M: Pretty decent mouth feel for a APA, not too light or too heavy. Alcohol is noticeable and the carbonation is pretty average.
O: I was extremely excited to stumble upon Lantern Brewing at the Phinney Farmers Market, but I'm not excited about this beer. Maybe the batch was botched, but all I have is the bottle I purchased. Let's hope that things can be improved down the road.
