Tripel Abbey-Style Golden Ale

Poured from 22oz bomber into a tulip.

Appearance: rich golden hue with plenty of haze to the body, but not enough to hide a big, active effervescence. Head is a thick finger of frothy white foam. I like it.

Smell: good malty aroma, but there is a hint of alcohol character that isn't particularly welcoming. Decent, but not perfect.

Taste: big malty flavor with a good amount of sweetness and alcohol bite. The unwelcome character of the alcohol is much more subdued in the flavor than in the aroma. In my experience, brewers can go two ways with a tripel: a genuine malt flavor or a fruitier, lighter, more complex flavor. I like both, and this is a good example of the former. Enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a big carbonation and very big creaminess. I love it!

Overall: a good tripel, but I feel like the aroma can be cleaned up a little bit. Glad to see good tripels being made in the Seattle area!

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a slightly cloudy light to medium straw amber. Nice fine white one finger head with good retention and lacing. Mild aroma of Belgian yeast and spicing, faint banana and stone fruits, smells like a tripel. Flavor follows, sweet malt, Belgian spicing, stone fruits, especially peach and apricot. A syrupy sweet note in the finish. Pleasant finish with banana, caramel and cardamom. Finish is light, closer to a Belgian pale ale. Medium mouth feel improved by nice active carbonation. Could be a bit more assertive, but still a nice, somewhat sweet tripel with very pleasant, but subdued flavor. I liked this and will buy it again. No ABV listed, but I'd estimate in the 6% area. I did not know about this local brewery and will try their other offerings.
