Poured a deep brown hue with a one finger creamy light tan head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured a soft burnt grain with traces of chocolate malt.
The taste consisted of a milky coffee, some cocoa and a tasty smoky element.
The mouthfeel was on the fuller side and creamy.
Overall a pretty good oatmeal stout considering its German origin.

Black Forest Brew Haus
On-Tap
4 oz. Sample Glass
A: Dark, bold, black color; typical appearance for a stout.
S: Hit with heavy, smokey scents that almost overpower anything else that the beer has to offer.
T: Once again, overly smokey - I was expecting to at least taste some oatmeal, as the name would suggest. However, as it warmed, you began to receive hints of chocolate, but the smokey flavor was still rather prominent.
M: Heavy, as expected.
D: This beer was new on tap; in fact, we were the first to try it. I was not impressed, mainly because my expectation was more of an oatmeal, sweeter flavor whereas what I got was a heavily, smoked stout. Then again, it was a German brew haus so you should expect that everything is going to be smoked one way or another.
