Not sure if this is the same brew as listed. Their menu states that this is a mix between Northern English and American Brown Ales. Pours a very deep chestnut brown color with a huge pillowy light brown head that settles into a solid cap and leaving some spot lacing. The aroma is of mineral water and brown sugar, not much hop aroma. The taste is of a nice nutty malt, brown sugar sweetness, a tea like sour characteristic, as well as some grassy hops. I had this on tap at the restaurant and it was much hoppier. The feel is light to moderate, semi-soft carbonation; finishes with a dry sour/bitter twang. A solid brown ale. Out of the growler seems to be more of an English ale, though does have a noticable hop presence. On tap the hops seemed to be more fore front. Overall, good brown ale, another solid brew from Black Forest.

Appearance: Opaque dark brown body. Big fluffy tan head that lasts throughout the session. Leave a good amount of lace rings around the glass.
Aroma: dark malts, roasted nuts, and light raw alcohol.
Taste: Very malty. Big coffee taste and some bready notes. Very lightly hopped. Clean finish.
Mouthfeel: Solid and thick on the palate. Noticeably smooth going down makes for a very drinkable beer.
Notes: My favorite beer from the Black Forest Brew Haus thus far. Great job on this classic style.
