In the 1800’s IPA, or India pale ale, got its’ name from the tradition of British brewers supplying British troops in India with a special pale ale made to survive the long voyage. The large amounts of hops added to the brew acted as a preservative for the beer so as to ward off spoilage. Double, or imperial, IPA kicks up both the alcohol and the hop levels. Our Powers of 10 was brewed to celebrate our 1000th batch of beer with each hop addition increasing from the previous by a factor of 10 resulting in 110 IBU's (international bittering units - a measure of bitterness)...long story short, it's hoppy and delicious!

Fresh filled growler from Black Forest Brew Haus served in a tulip glass.

L - deep amber color with a fluffy beige head that left thick islands of lacing on the glass.

S - mix of pine, citrus and some floral hops with malts in the background.

T - malty sweetness upfront is blanketed by citrus rind bitterness all the way to the end.

F - medium bodied with a smooth feel.

O - worth a try if you're in Farmingdale, NY while it's around.
